From our Chaplin and Faithful Friar
Do you appreciate the fact that you are a Knight / Sir Knight of Columbus? Do you even
think about being a valued member of a world-wide international organization? I don’t think
many of us do. As you are sweating and laboring over a cookout or fish fry; as you are trying to
sell pecans or Boston Butts; as you are sitting through a less than exciting meeting, I doubt that
you are counting your blessings!
When we work only on the local Council and Assembly level it is difficult to see the “Big
Picture”. It can even become frustrating and depressing when few members show up for a work
project or meeting. Recently, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson painted us the “Big Picture”
when he presented the results of the 2009 Survey of Fraternal Activity last month. In 2009, K of
C total charitable contributions reached $151,105,867… exceeding the previous year’s total by
more than $1 million. Volunteer service hours by Knights to charitable causes grew to
69,251,926…an increase of 468,291 hours compared to the 2008 total. That is absolutely incredible
thinking about us being in the most serious and troubling economic times since the
Great Depression! Cumulative figures show that during the past decade, the Knights of Columbus
has donated more than $1.367 billion to charity, and provided nearly 640 million hours of volunteer
service in support of charitable initiatives.
If those facts and figures do not make you appreciative and proud to be a Knight, to be a
part of such an organization I recommend checking your pulse to see if you are still alive! Once
again I challenge all of my Brother Knights and Sir Knights to get active. Coming up this Fall we
have many important projects and opportunities. We have a wonderful fraternal brotherhood and
we need the support of EVERY BROTHER!
Vivat Jesus,
Fr. Mike Ingram
P.S. If you simply don’t have the time to get involved I challenge you to send in an extra donation
of $50 00 - $100.00 to assist and support your brothers who are so willingly giving of their
time and talents. We want and need you to be a part of the wonderful work we are doing!
